Fairuza Balk is a visual artist, musician, and actor. She was born in Point Reyes, California, on May 21, 1974. She has been known for performing goth girl parts for most of her career. Fairuza is a Persian name that means “turquoise” her father admired her eyes and quickly determined what to call her. She moved to British Columbia with her mother when her parents got divorced. At nine, she made her acting debut in ABC’s The Best Christmas Pageant Ever (1983). When she was 11 years old, she moved to the United Kingdom to study ballet at the Royal Academy of Ballet. The same year she was cast as Dorothy in Return of the Oz (1985). Prophetically enough, she starred in The Worst Witch (1986).
Her breakthrough came in 1996 when she landed the role of Nancy Downs in the film The Craft. For her performance in Gas Food Lodging, she received her first Independent Spirit Award for best actress. Throughout her career, she continued landing gothic parts. In American History X (1998), she played Stacey, a neo-Nazi. She played Vicki Vallencourt in The Waterboy (1998). She played Sapphire in the highly acclaimed film Almost Famous (2000). On IMDB, she has been listed as having 53 acting credits. She has provided voices for characters in animated films, television series, and video games. The most notable is Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002), Justice League (2001-2004), and Family Guy.
Fairuza portrayed the character of Cecile in Valmont (1989), which is one of my favorite films. She also loves music and singing and has a music outlet named Armed Love Militia. In 2010, she released the song “Stormwinds.” And has now released several tracks.
